I will therefore that men pray in every place, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and disputing.

He instructeth that the mind must be peaceful in prayer, that prayer may be brought to effect; for holy are the hands when the heart is pure. Nevertheless, he enjoins to pray in every place, so that a fitting place be understood; not indeed in an unseemly or sordid place; for, surely, the Lord forbids to pray in public; but this he admonishes, lest one might think prayer is to be made only in the Church.
