Who gave Himself a redemption for all: the testimony whereof in His own times was given, whereunto I am ordained a preacher and apostle (I speak the truth, I lie not), a teacher of the nations in faith and truth.
For when man, reconciled to God, was still bound to infernal death, that to God, to whom he was reconciled, he might be able to ascend, the Saviour, that He might bring His purpose to effect, suffered Himself to die contrary to right; so that, descending to the lower regions, He might condemn death for the wickedness which it exercised upon Him, snatching away those whom it held; so that henceforth, whosoever bore His sign, could not by it be held. The testimony of which thing He showed when He arose; for the destruction of death is the resurrection of the dead. This hope was sent to be preached by this apostle of the Gentiles, that by him they might learn what hope there is in Christ; whence he is called a teacher, to teach faith and truth.
